Yardsale
The online marketplace for JHU students.
What it is
Yardsale is an iPhone app for buying and selling secondhand things between Johns Hopkins students — the desk lamp, the mini fridge, the textbook you are done with. Everything is local to campus, so nothing gets shipped and nobody pays a delivery fee.
Signing up requires a Hopkins email address, so everyone you are dealing with is another student.
Built around not knowing who you are
- No real names, no profile photos, no contact details.
- Listings show a general area on campus, never an exact address.
- People are identified only by a score earned from completed sales.
- Photos are stripped of the location data cameras attach to them.
Status: in development
Yardsale is being built now and is not open to the public yet. Testing
with a small group of students comes first.
